Mae Liam Rickard (a.k.a. "Worldwide Welshman") yn edrych ymlaen yn fawr i iawn i groesawu ei ffrindiau, Yoko Pwno, i ganolbarth Cymru ym mis Chwefror!

Band gwerin-amgen-elegtronic Albanaidd o Gaeredin a Dunbar yw Yoko Pwno. Maen nhw wedi bod yn difyrru cynulleidfaoedd yn eang ar draws yr Alban, Lloegr, Cymru ac Iwerddon! Mae nhw wedi chwarae wyliau weddol lleol yn cynnwys Gwyl Landed.

Bydd 'na slot cymorth gan sêr lleol, Lo-fi Jones!

Wnâi gadael i Yoko Pwno cyflwyno eu hunain:

"Yn gyntaf.... – mae'r enw yn gael ei ynganu fel iow – cow – pow – now. Mae'n odli gyda "Yoko Ono", neu "Loco Bono".

Ond nid pawb sy'n ein galw ni hwn. Mae'r BBC wedi ein cyfeirio atom fel ‘one of Scotland’s most loved live acts’. Mi wnaeth Spiral Earth alw ni yn ‘trippy and pleasingly eclectic’. Dwedodd 'The National' ein bod yn rhoi egni newydd a heintus i gerddoriaeth draddodiadol.

I'n ffrindiau a'n teulu, Helen, Lewis, Lissa, Calum, Dan, Gary a Sam ydan ni – saith ffrind ar genhadaeth i chwythu chi ffwrdd gyda'n cymysgiad o alawon gwreiddiol, caneuon, a'r math o guriadau "banging, wonky" sydd i glywed ar y sîn glybio Caeredin.

Ers 2019, rydym wedi rhyddhau dau albwm ac wedi teithio dros y D.U., ac wedi cychwyn i wneud cyrchoedd i'r Tir Mawr. Mae'n uchafbwyntiau diweddar yn cynnwys digwyddiadau mawr fel Boomtown Fair 2024, daith i'r ŵyl Wachelstein yn Awstria, a mwy tyrfaoedd hapus, dawnsiog na fedrwn ni cofio. Buon ni'n agor i Hot Chip mewn gig enfawr awyr agored yng Nglasgow yn 2023, hyd yn oed! Does 'na ddim llawer o grwpiau traddodiadol sy'n gallu dweud fod nhw wedi neud hynny!"

Liam Rickard (a.k.a Worldwide Welshman) is looking forward very much to welcoming his friends Yoko Pwno to Midwales this February. Yoko Pwno are an Edinburgh/Dunbar based Scottish Folktronica band, popular in festivals across Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.

There'll be supported by Machynlleth's very own indie-folk-pop group, Lo-fi Jones!

I'll let Yoko Pwno introduce themselves:

"First things first – Yoko Pwno is pronounced yoe – koe – poe – noe. It rhymes with Yoko Ono, or Loco Bono, if you prefer.

Not everyone calls us that though. The BBC called us ‘one of Scotland’s most loved live acts’. Spiral Earth called us ‘trippy and pleasingly eclectic’. The National even said that we gave traditional music ‘a new and infectious energy’.

To our friends and family, we are called Helen, Lewis, Lissa, Calum, Dan, Gary and Sam – seven friends on a mission to blow you away with a fusion of self penned folk tunes, songs, and the kind of banging, wonky dance beats that soundtrack Edinburgh’s underground club scene.

Since 2019 we’ve released two albums, toured all over the UK, and started making forays into Europe. Recent highlights include massive events like the 2024 edition of Boomtown Fair, a trip to Austria’s Wackelstein Festival, and more happy, dancing festival crowds than we care to remember. We even got to open up for Hot Chip at a massive outdoor gig at Glasgow’s Junction 1 in 2023. Not many traditional musicians can say they’ve done that!"

Thanks to NightsOut for their support.

Lo-fi Jones
Yoko Pwno

Yoko Pwno are a Celtic/Techno crossover band from Edinburgh. The brainchild of 4 young players who met on the cities' diverse music scene, they feature the talents of a classically trained wedding singer (Lissa), a fiddle playing acrobat (Lewis), a techno-loving dance music producer (Calum) and a self confessed 'gear nerd' drummer (Ali).

They bonded over a shared love of whisky, wild places and raves in the woods. Their music is a genre violating mixture of fiddles, drums, reels, basslines and breakbeats, and has been compared to 'Underworld playing a ceilidh... on Mars'.

Their influences include traditional acts like fellow Scots Shooglenifty and Martyn Bennett through to dance/electronic groups like Daft Punk, The Prodigy and Boards of Canada.

Yoko Pwno are currently recording their debut album with producer Iain Copeland (Sketch, The Peatbog Faeries). It will be released on Skye Records in Spring 2019.
